Below are some screen shots of how rhino was used in order to unroll my max model to create a mesh pattern, flat and to the correct sizes in order for me to the generate 2d lines and convert into a file for illustrator (to lazercut).

The UnrolSurface command also enabled me to have the option to view a numbering system to use when constructing the separate elements that was extremely useful with the vast number of triangular segments.
